PANAJI: Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance has initiated a preliminary inquiry into the complaint of allegations of disproportionate assets against Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar and his wife Janita Madkaikar, who is the sarpanch of Old Goa panchayat.
A complaint in this regard was lodged by Aires Rodrigues
seeking a probe into their alleged disproportionate assets.
Rodrigues said that along with the complaint he has submitted to the ACB photographs of the palatial bungalow of Madkaikars worth crores of
rupees and a copy of the affidavit dated January 13, 2017 filed by Madkaikar along with his nomination papers for the 2017 Assembly elections.
Rodrigues has pointed out that in the income tax returns for the financial year 2015-16
Madkaikar had shown his total income for the year as Rs 1,44,389
and that of his wife Rs 24,389.
Rodrigues said that the Madkaikars had in their affidavit shown that they own only one residential building at Old Goa with the plot admeasuring 875 square metres and the total
built up area 580.7 sq mts, valued at Rs 69,68,400.
Rodrigues has demanded that the ACB register a FIR under the Prevention of
Corruption Act and Section 120-B of IPC (criminal conspiracy) against Madkaikar and his wife and speedily investigate the case.
