CM: govt has finalised places to set up plants for treating e-waste, biomedical waste



The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Tuesday, said that the government has finalised places to set up plants for treating e-waste, and biomedical and hazardous waste from the state, and added that after two years, Goa will be the only state in the country to treat all types of waste.

Sawant visited the Goa Solid Waste Management Plant at Saligao along with Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, and took stock of the situation there, and reviewed the plant’s progress. 

He said that a total of 150 tonne of garbage from all over the state is being treated at the Saligao plant per day in a well-processed manner and government is planning to enhance the capacity of Saligao plant to handle 250 tonne of waste per day.

“We have finalized few places like Kundaim, Pissurlem and Colvale IDC to set up treatment plants for e-waste, biomedical and hazardous waste,” he said.

Sawant also said that the government has also introduced the concept of bio-toilet. Total of 17,000 bio-toilets are demanded by various panchayats across the state.

“The cost for the installation of a bio-toilet for general category is brought down to Rs 4,000 from earlier Rs10,000; for OBCs it is Rs 2500, and Rs 1000 for STs,” he

“A team of Goa Solid Waste Corporation is working hard in making this possible, so that by July 31, 2019, we can declare the state Open Defecation Free (ODF),” the Chief Minister added.
