Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that he is not in favour of merger of Dodamarg taluka of Maharashtra into Goa.
Some leaders from Dodamarg taluka of Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra have demanded merger of the taluka into Goa.
Opposition parties in the state, including the Goa Forward Party and the Congress, had sought Chief Minister’s statement on the demand.
“There may be discussions on the issue, but I am not in support of merger of Dodamarg taluka in the state of Goa,” Sawant maintained, adding that Goa and Maharashtra have certain cultural differences, and there cannot be any merger.
The Chief Minister said that welfare of Goa and its people is his priority, adding that Goans should not be worried that additional areas could be added to the state.
