Bharatiya Janata Party organisational secretary for Goa Satish Dhond and other party leaders were present on the occasion.
A meeting of various BJP block committees of North Goa was held at the North Goa office of the party in Mapusa on Saturday. The meet was attended by Dhond, Damu Naik
and Govind Parvatkar. Deliberations were held at the meet on various events to be held in North Goa including the taking of ashes (Asthi) of late former chief minister Manohar Parrikar to various constituencies.
After the meeting, the Chief Minister, in the presence of party leaders including Mapusa BJP Mandal president Damodar Lanjekar, announced the name of Joshua D’Souza as the BJP candidate for Mapusa bypoll and presented a bouquet to him while wishing him best of luck.
Joshua expressed happiness over the announcement of his name and said, “It feels good; now I will meet up Mandal bearers and chalk out a plan for the campaign since there is not much time left for the bypoll.”
Reacting to the declaration of Joshua’s name as candidate for Mapusa bypoll, Lanjekar welcomed the party decision and said “we will stand by the party decision and work to ensure that once again we win the Mapusa seat by a good margin.”
