City car thefts: police identify two, issue lookout notice


Panaji police have identified two persons wanted in connection with theft of two cars reported in the city last month.

Mohammad Israr (29) and Rajesh Patil (48), both from a neighbouring state, are the alleged accused, police said. Police have issued a lookout notice against the two in this connection.

Panaji police said that one of the car theft incidents was recorded in a CCTV camera wherein two persons were seen while committing the theft.

Based on the CCTV footage and further probe, the police came to know about the two persons, a police officer said, adding that, these two are reportedly involved in similar crimes in the neighbouring state.

It may be recalled that two cars were stolen from the city between  May 25 and 26, while another car was stolen from Porvorim area during the same period. Police had suspected the thefts to be the handiwork of a gang of car thieves.

According to Panaji police, one car was stolen from St Inez and the other was stolen from municipal market area while the third car was stolen from Chogum road area in Porvorim.
