The road behind Holy Spirit Church right up to the main junction in Margao has been officially named after Chris Perry, Goa’s legendary musician. To honour him further, his son, Glenn Perry will present a memorial today 5 p.m. onwards.
Speaking to NT BUZZ he says: “My father was my mentor, my teacher and my everything. Ten days ago I won the American Akademia Music Award in Los Angeles and in November I won the Artist of the Month Award for the song ‘Aloha’. I wouldn’t have won these without my father who laid the basis for my career in music. Thus, now as I am in Goa it is befitting to have a memorial for him,” he says.
The memorial event will begin at 5 p.m. with the opening of Chris Perry’s house. Fans of the legendary musician will get a unique opportunity to see the trumpet which was played by him along with several other personal memorabilia. The bed on which he breathed his last along with rare photographs clicked around the world will be on display at Chris Perry’s ancestral home. Perry’s fans will have a unique opportunity to also have a look at some of his musical writings, clothes and personal belongings.
Glenn Perry will then conduct a musical workshop wherein he will teach students about music, theory and music composition. He says that just like his father he too wants to impart music to those who want to learn it and hopes young children and those interested in music will get their instrument along for the workshop.
Later, Glenn will also perform in honour of his father for fans. However, he will play his original numbers. “I will be performing a few of my songs. I just want to take forward my father’s legacy through music, and someday I hope to produce some Konkani music in Goa,” says the singer.
