Chicalim gets cleanest panchayat award

The Minister for Panchayati Raj Mauvin Godinho said that the state government is making efforts to increase the funds of panchayat bodies which fall within the radius of Dabolim airport for the purpose of garbage management as Rs 9 lakh will not be enough to cater to the day-today affairs in handling the garbage system.

Godinho was speaking to media after presenting the ‘Cleanest Village Panchayat Award’ to the Chicalim sarpanch Sebastiao Pereira at a function held at Chicalim Village Panchayat Ghar on Tuesday.

The Chicalim Village Panchayat was bestowed with the Cleanest Panchayat Award by Governor Dr Mridula Sinha, under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan for the year 2018 at Raj Bhavan Dona Paula on the occasion of Republic Day.

Among those present on the occasion were, deputy sarpanch Kamlaprasad Yadav, panch members Maria Mascarenhas, Roberto Falcao, Ana Maria Colaco Azaredo, Ruchi Bandivadekar, Shivaji Kurade, Supresh Mayekar, Sanifa D’Costa, Yuvraj Volvoikar, Pedro Rodrigues besides Mormugao BDO Deepak Vaingankar, Panchayat secretary Sainath Padwal and others.

Godinho praised the members of the Chicalim Panchayat for bagging the award, despite lacking a proper garbage treatment site. He maintained that all the panchayat bodies coming within the radius of Dabolim airport will be given additional funds by the state government in order to handle garbage in a proper manner thereby keeping the surroundings clean.

Sarpanch Pereira said that the credit of achieving the cleanliness award goes to every member of the panchayat. “The credit goes to the Panchayati Raj Minister Godinho for his all out support to the village panchayat”, he said. He also said that the panchayat thanks the attorney of Chicalim Communidade Raymond Carvalho for allocating land for segregation of garbage.

Meanwhile, Godinho handed over sanction letters of ‘Laadli Laxmi’ to 17 beneficiaries under the Directorate of Women and Child Development and also presented an appointment letter to a youth from Alto- Dabolim for the post of additional depot manager in Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) at a simple function held at BJP office, New Vaddem on Tuesday.
