Chaat and chai by the coast

NT Buzz

Goa may have just felt a respite from the heat with the pre monsoon showers that have lashed across the state and though many may believe this might be a false alarm, we still have the cool weather to enjoy while it lasts. Regardless of whether the monsoons are here to stay or not, we don’t need an excuse to savour the spice and tang of the Indian street food, do we?

Cidade de Goa has a perfect chai time menu all through the monsoons, come rain or sunshine. A steaming hot samosa or chaat filled with flavourful goodness is what the menu indulges the foodie with. And while the complexity of flavours in the sev puri, made using a handful of ingredients is a culinary pleasure, the chaat are entirely a different ball game. The chaat in two different combinations of the same elements give you two distinct experiences – sweet and spicy. Made fresh with a base of chaat masala, potatoes, chopped onion, fresh green coriander leaves and yogurt, it is a perfect example of what can be achieved with just a few ingredients.

You will find variations from aloo ki tikki, paneer ka chiila, Jodhpuri mirchi pakoda and Ajmeri samose kadi to kurkure aloo tuk chaat, dahi bhalla, pani puri, sev puri and lots more.

(Cidade de Goa will organise ‘Street Feast’ a festival of
traditional chaat items at Doçaria every Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, June 9 onwards, between 4:30 p.m.
and 6:30 p.m.)
