Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar informed him Friday morning that the Centre’s response on diversion of Mhadei waters by the Karnataka government would be sent to Goa in a day or two.
“I spoke to the central minister today morning,” Sawant said, adding that a meeting of one of the committees of the central ministry still remains to be held.
“Javadekar said that he would let me know the details in a day or two,” the Chief Minister stated, observing that people, in general as well as some journalists should understand that literal meaning should not be taken as regards the duration given by Javadekar, in such a matter.
“The ten-day deadline is over just yesterday,” he noted, further mentioning, “We are following up the matter with the Centre and we are sure that central government will consider our demand.”
It may be recalled that an all-party delegation led by Sawant had met Javadekar on November 4, 2019, in New Delhi, when the central minister had assured the members of the delegation that the clarification letter pertaining to the Environment Clearance given to Kalasa-Bhandura project of the Karnataka government would be sent to the Goa government in ten days’ time.
The opposition including Congress, Goa Forward Party, Goa Suraksha Manch and Aam Aadmi Party have all expressed concern over the delay in receiving clarification from the Ministry for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, especially as the ten-day deadline has already expired.
