CD released to commemorate Reginald Fernandes’ works

On the occasion of 103rd birth anniversary of Reginald Fernandes, an Audio CD with songs composed by Reginald Fernandes was released by cartoonist, Alexyz at the Tiatr Academy of Goa, conference hall, Panaji.

Giving an insight into the life of Reginald Fernandes who was a Konkani writer and musician, keynote speaker for the occasion, Daniel De Souza, said: “Contribution of Reginald in Konkani literature is incomparable. His style of writing is completely different from the rest. He would write in such a descriptive manner that it would be hard for the reader to lose their attention. Readers would anxiously wait until his next book would be out.”

De Souza  further spoke about the life of Fernandes saying:“At the age 18 Reginald left home and settled in Mumbai and that is when his writing skills got developed. He was a focused writer. He knew exactly what he wanted to write about. It would just take him eight to ten hours to complete his book.”

He also mentioned about Fernandes’ love for music and how he gained international acclaim for his music. De Souza said: “He had a band and he would perform in various parts of the country as well as did shows abroad. He was a versatile musician and his songs were a treat to music lovers.”

Speaking about the initiative taken by DKA to recognise the works of Fernandes, president of Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA), Tomazinho Cardozo said: “Reginald did not get the much needed recognition in Konkani literature that he deserved but due to the efforts of DKA we were able to highlight and bring forth his contribution to the people. Our main aim was to make his work known and due to which we not only celebrate his birth day but on his 101st birth anniversary we named our conference hall in his memory.”
