The Mayor of Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Uday Madkaikar, on Friday, that “I do not have a grudge against anyone. I want ‘chakachak’ Panaji, and want it to be presented as clean and tidy city, I want to raise its ranking to the top. It should look like a capital city.”

Speaking to this daily, Madkaikar said, “Our Panaji city is very small, and thousands of tourists visit it every day. If it remains  dirty and un-presentable who will visit it? So, my mission is to make it ‘chakachak.’  If there is a debris lying unattended and garbage lying un-cleared, what image the tourists will have about the corporation?”

“I have even warned my people, engaged in garbage collection, to be very punctual, dedicated to the job and prompt in clearing the garbage within the city jurisdiction, and present a good image before the visitors as I have taken the cleanliness drive to my heart,” he revealed.

“I had invited representatives of all the agencies engaged in cutting and digging the roads, and warned them not to leave any debris on the side of the roads and finish the work before April 30,” he added.

Representatives of the agencies like Goa Natural Gas, Jio Telephone Communications, besides  contractors of Larsen and Toubro Ltd, PWD engineer Lawande and  others  attended the meeting that was urgently convened for explaining corporation’s stand on digging.

“We told them in clear cut tone not to leave any debris next to the roadside, and once the work gets over restore the area, and do not give any chance to the CCP to criticise them. Technical team also attended the meeting,” he added.

“Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd was undertaking a digging work near Restaurant Celebrations, but now it has stopped the work and withdrawn their workers from there as I expressed my anger over the haphazard cutting and  debris  being left along the sides of the roads,” he said.
