CCP Mayor: dolphin cruise operators not following safety norms

PANAJI: The Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Uday Madkaikar, on Tuesday, inspected the site from where dolphin cruises are being undertaken, over the allegation of operations being carried out without ‘following proper measures’ despite of ‘clear-cut warning’  by the Indian Meteorology Department.

Speaking to this daily, Madkaikar said, “The operators do not provide safety gears to the people going on a dolphin ride or joy ride in the rains despite of the warning issued by the Indian Meteorology Department.”

He informed that the operators are also not adhering to the cleanliness norms, and added that they (operators) are in the habit of throwing garbage in the nearby bushes and creating nuisance on the beach.

The Corporation of the City of Panaji is seeking co-operation from the members of public and every visitor to keep the beaches clean and tidy, he added. He further said that the operators are not providing lifebuoys to the passengers, and added that their lives could be in danger in case of fall in the water while having a ride in the River Mandovi near Miramar or opposite INOX.

He also said that he would send a team of inspectors attached to the corporation to check whether they (cruise operators) “adopt any corrective measures after warning on dangers of venturing into the sea without safety gears for the passengers.”
