Fishworkers forum calls for strike tomorrow

VASCO: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging herself with the help of a nylon rope at her residence at Cortalim on Wednesday. According to Verna police, the deceased was studying in class IX and had returned home after answering her exam paper.

79% complaints against govt servants did not have proof

PANAJI: Even as the state is observing the vigilance week, enquiries with the vigilance department revealed that around 79 per cent of the complaints received (a large majority of which were anonymous) from the public against government servants in the state did not have any basis for proceeding against the government employees.

Kishore Naik is new PMC chairperson

PONDA: Mr Kishore Naik, was on Tuesday elected as the new chairperson of the Ponda Municipal Council.

He was the lone candidate for the post which had fallen vacant after six councillors joined hands and moved no confidence motion, which ultimately led to the ouster of Mr Pradeep Naik as the chairperson.

CM urged to halt development in eco-sensitive areas

MARGAO: Two ex-members of the task force of which one was  on the state level committee on Regional Plan 2021  - Mr Edgar Ribeiro, Dr Oscar Rebello, and two associates  Ms Ritu Prasad, and Ms Patricia Pinto  on October 24 wrote to the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat stating that ‘immediate orders’ should be issued so that no development is allowed in all eco-sensitive areas I and II.

NGO refutes Kavlekar’s statement on land acquisition

MARGAO: Reacting to the statement made by the Quepem MLA and GSIDC chief, Mr Chandrakant Kavlekar, that the corporation had decided to halt the acquisition of 14.5 lakh square metres of land for expansion of the Verna Industrial Estate on the request of members of Voice of Villagers, who met with him, the NGO has categorically denied that any of its members ever requested Mr Kavlekar to do the same.
