Kamat seeks report on police-drug mafia nexus

PANAJI/MARGAO: The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat has said that he has sought a report from the home department as regards to death of Cipriano Canelio Fernandes, a 38-year old man from Moira, as well as the nexus between police and drug dealers even as the SP, South, has placed under suspension Arun Nagappa Dessai, a head constable of Margao police station, in the drug-related case.

New direct tax code fair enough: Eduardo

PANAJI: Reacting to the Direct Tax Code Bill, which is before the Parliament and makes NRIs liable to pay tax if they stay in India for 60 days or more in a financial year as also stay in the country for 365 days or more in the preceding four financial years, the state NRI Commissioner, Mr Eduardo Faleiro on Wednesday said that the legislation is ‘fair enough’ and is being brought about to prevent those NRIs who stay in two or more countries, and refrain from paying tax to all the countries of their residence.
