DULER: Micheal Dias scored a second half double as Candolim Sports Club registered a 3-1 win over Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club in their Goa Football Association Second Division League match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.
After sharing good ball possession in the first quarter Vagator PYSC were successful to take the lead in the 26th minute through Anford Fernandes, but their joy was short-lived as Nikhil Naik made it all square within three minutes.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the break.
Post resumption Candolim SC’s efforts were rewarded just before the hour mark as Michael Dias scored two goals in the span of two minutes to give his side full points.
Meanwhile, Mayuresh Naik scored a double hat-trick as Sinquerim Sports Club ran riot over Holy Cross Sports Club Arambol at Poriat ground, Calangute, on Friday.
Holy Cross Arambol fielded just seven players and were punished heavily by a massive upset of the league. Mayuresh Naik completed his hat-trick in just 25 minutes as he opened the scoring in the 12th minute before he doubled the account in the 16th minute and completed his treble five minutes from the half hour mark.
The winners led 7-0 at the break.
Paras Devulkar scored a brace for the winners while Ashish Gawas, Dattaraj Tari, Samir Shaikh, Mandar N and Joaquim Pacheco also got on to the score sheet netting a goal each.
In the south; Mandopa Sports Club came from behind to hold Nuvem Sports Club in a thrilling 4-4 draw in Salcete Zone match played at Ambelim ground.
It was a tale of two halves as either sides had their share in the game. While Aloysisus Fernandes was the highlight in the first half, the second half was all about Aulon Gomes. Aloysisus opened the scoring for Nuvem in the sixth minute. Nuvem doubled their tally in the 37th minute through Queterio Pango. Minguel Coutinho netted the third in the first half added time as Nuvem led 3-0 at the break.
Much was expected in the second half and Nuvem SC were at their best yet again as Aloysisus completed his brace in the 52nd minute to take the game beyond Mandopa’s
Aulon Gomes was the hero for Mandopa side as he smashed in a spending hat-trick to pull three goals back netting in the 59th, 74th and 82nd minutes.
Just as it looked like Nuvem would survive the unexpected Mandopa SC pressure, they conceded the late equalising goal which came from the boots of Presly Gomes in the second half additional time.
Mandopa SC managed to steal a point from their opponents in an expected yet thrilling match.
