CANACONA: Residents of Canacona on Friday demanded upgradation of the community health centre to a full-fledged hospital with better facilities.
Holding a silent protest outside the health centre, the residents said that this has been a long-standing demand as the medical facilities are not sufficient for 50,000 people of Canacona.
They submitted a memorandum to the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane demanding a full-time gynaecologist as women face hardships with deliveries and also increasing frequency of other specialists.
They pointed out that since 2007, the people of Canacona have been demanding a full-fledged hospital. “We have made several representations to the government but to no avail and now we demand from the health minister to take up the matter with the government and provide a full-fledged hospital,” they said. Rane was at the health centre to launch emergency care services when the residents submitted a memorandum to him.
