CALANGUTE: The residents of Gauravaddo, Calangute are irked over a hotelier’s action as a storm water drain is being built along the ‘path’ that is used by people while going to a chapel.
The residents have submitted a memorandum to the panchayat urging it not to issue occupancy/completion certificate for a seven-storey hotel project that has come up there.
Domingo, a resident of the area said, “We have submitted a resolution signed by 42 residents stating that due to the storm water drain work the residents cannot use the path that provides access to the chapel. For last three months, we have been facing inconvenience because of it.”
Another resident, Antonio stated that as per a PIL in the High Court, the latter has given directives to the NGPDA not to grant any permission as well as occupancy certificate for any development or construction of high-rise building based on draft ODP, in spite of it the hotel has been given permission.
Sarpanch Shawn Martin, when contacted, said that the villagers have submitted a memorandum pointing out illegal digging of public road to construct a storm water drain.
He said that he was not aware of the issue and, hence, panchayat would inspect the site and, if there was any illegality, the work would be stopped.
He added that the villagers should not face any inconvenience whatsoever.
