Calangute Association registered an easy 4-1 win over Bardez FC in the Bardez derby of the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium on Thursday.
Dominic Fernandes scored a hat trick and Sacidanand Satelkar scored the other goal for the winners while Richard Cardoz reduced the margin for Bardez FC.
Both the teams had lost to Corps of Signals in their last matches – Calangute losing 1-4 and Bardez FC 1-3. Bardez had registered an easy 3-1 win over Calangute in their home game.
Calangute took two minutes to create their first chance as their skipper Dominic Fernandes tried his luck from the top of the box but his strike missed the target by a marginal distance.
Calangute had another chance to open their tally in the 7th minute when Dominic made a superb chip-pass in the box but unmarked Mohammed Shashad and Sachidanand Satelkar failed to capitalise on an easy chance.
After wasting few more opportunities, Calangute finally found the opener in the 15th minutes when Sanket Jotkar brilliantly chested down Shashad’s cross from the left and released it to well-placed Dominic whose shot from the edge of the box entered the far post to make it 1-0 for Calangute.
Bardez took 40 minutes to come close to scoring as Richard Cardoz nicely curled the ball to Carl D’Souza in the box from the free kick but the midfielder saw his flick miss the target narrowly. Bardez FC had another opportunity to level in the 45th minute but, this time – Richard’s sparkling shot from the distance was pushed for a corner by diving Calangute keeper Sanij Bugde.
Bardez regrouped after the half time and came out stronger in the second session as they made continues raids on the opponents from the start. In one of these, Richard once again set up Carl in the box but the midfielders shot went over the crossbar from 6-yards.
However, Calangute doubled their lead at the hour mark as Runal Shirodkar’s cross was headed by Dominic but it hit the Bardez defender and fell back to his feet. This time, Dominic made no mistake in finishing the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Bardez refused to give up, after conceding the second and reduced their margin in the next five minutes as Carl made a through pass to winger Richard who covered some ground and shot from inside the box which deflected off Calangute defender Gaurav Vaigankar and crashed in his own goal.
The last 10 minutes saw, Calangute trying to build up pressure on the opponents as they made series of attacks.
Runal made a low cross from the right flank to Sachidanand whose shot rebounded off the crossbar from point-blank range. The very next minute, Akash Sanadi’s goal bound shot was brilliantly blocked by Bardez keeper Elesh Shirvoikar.
Elesh made two brilliant saves in the next two minutes – first pushing Jason Lucas’ shot for a corner and later blocking Sachidanand’s effort in a one-on-one situation.
However, Sachidanand made up for his last two missed chances as the winger made an easy tap-in to Dominic’s low cross from the right making it 3-1 for his side in the added time.
