PANAJI: The weekend was witness to an evening of Indian Classical music that intertwined two communities - Bengali and Goan.
The Shastriya Sangeet Sandhya, organised by the Bengali Cultural Association, saw various talents from both communities presenting melodies based on ‘ragas’ (melody) and ‘taals’ (rhythm). Representing the Goans were Shashank Maktedkar and Pravin Gaonkar, while the brilliant Manab Das from Bengal gave a sitar recital. The evening reverberated to the taals of ragas, thumris and ghazals.
Appreciating the efforts of the association, chief guest, Mr Kamlakar Naik, principal, Goa College of Music, said that he felt that the show should be made into a day-long event held annually.
The Bengali Cultural Association has been organising shows in the state for past 29 years.
