Saligao, Santa Cruz users told to stay with 2G

PANAJI: Some 100s of 2G users in Saligao and Santa Cruz are holding on to their 2G connection. The migration to 3G has started with providers such as Idea, BSNL and Vodafone taking the rush of cancellation.

Each service provider’s service office is activating around 200 to 300 users daily since the cancellation of 2G was announced, said Idea data specialist Mr Milind Patil. The transfer package is minimal starting from Rs 8, Rs 20 and Rs 103 for 200MBPS.
“In some areas where the range for 3G is weak, such as Saligao and Santa Cruz, we have requested the users not to transfer to 3G till such time, the 3G range gets better, Mr Patil said.
The new users of 3G are finding it faster than 2G with speed of 21.6MBPS. For example this gives faster internet access download speed of 40 seconds compared with 2G download of five minutes.
The current BSNL 2G plans and BSNL 3G Tariff plans will stay till February 17 and the newly revised BSNL 3G Data plans will come into effect on February 18, BSNL service provider said.
