PANAJI: Mormugao Port has been making consistent efforts to develop various infrastructure projects for the benefit of the State of Goa and its citizens, said a press release. In one such major initiative, the Railway Board has approved a project for South Western Railway for doubling the track between Hospet, Karnataka to Vasco at a project cost of
over `2,000 crores.
The main thrust has been to synchronise the inward and outward movement of rail borne cargo. The Port projects have been developed in consultation and consonance with South Western Railway (SWR). These projects will provide freight traffic both ways for the Indian Railways.
Considering the enormous potential of freight traffic originating from Mormugao Port, the doubling of the Railway connectivity will increase freight carriage as well as passenger services significantly between Goa and other parts of the country. These major initiatives have been only possible due to the various infrastructure projects undertaken by MPT and the ports excellent relationship, with the Railway Authorities.This Project has been assigned to the Rail Vikas Nigam, a Government of India undertaking.
