PANAJI: Mr Rajendra Talak is optimistic about the future of the Goan movie business. The cost of movie making has climbed steadily, and so the risks. A typical production can cost more than Rs70 lakhs, he says, involving cast, production personnel, and special effects.
The Indian film and television business has changed enormously. Financing has become increasingly driven by incentives offered by various states to attract production. He says: “If our industries can sponsor budding football players, football academies and professional football teams,” Mr Talak wonders, “would it be too difficult to financially support and sponsor Konkani film production. A good deed like this will surely maintain our traditions from deteriorating, he adds.
He feels Goan industrials can change the scenario for upcoming and talented producers and directors languishing in the cold for the want of finance and backing. Discussing his own career, he says, “When there is more money there is a struggle for the chance to take risks with that money. Every movie I have made is a confidence booster.”
The shooting of `O Maria’ has begun. Local singing sensation Mr Remo Fernandes will belt out is ballads. `O Maria’ is based on a story by Mr Talak to screenplay with Ms Pratima Kulkarni, music composed by Mr Remo. Ms Shenaz Patel plays the lead role, supported by Sulbha Arya, Tiku Talsania and Ms Meenacshi Martins. Others include Mr Kevin Dmello, Mr Aryan Khedekar and Mr Sanjay Talwadkar.
