Normal flight operations restored: AI

NEW DELHI: National carrier Air India on Friday said it had restored normal flight operations on almost all its routes, nearly 36 hours after the two-day strike by its employees left thousands of passengers stranded and air services across the country crippled.

AI spokeperson said with all its staff reporting for duty, air operations had been restored to its capacity.
The normal operations come after two days of paralysed services, following a strike call by over 14,000 of its staff, including engineers and crew members, and a day after AI struggled to bring back its operations
on the rails.
While, in all, 130 flights of Air India were cancelled during the strike, affecting over 10,000 passengers and leading to losses worth over Rs 12 crore to the national carrier, 25 flights were cancelled yesterday - a day after the strike was ‘called off’.
Both National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) trade unions—Air Corporation Employees’ Union (ACEU) and All India Aircraft Engineers’ Association (AIAEA) -- had joined hands to call for the May 25 ‘flash-strike’ in protest against the ‘gag order’ that debarred them from airing their views in public on issues pertaining to the national carrier and its functioning, which Air India said was “harming its image and affecting revenue generation”.
