MPT aims to synchronise inward - outward movement

VASCO: The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has been making consistent efforts to develop various infrastructure projects for the benefit of the State of Goa and its citizens. Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, the MPT, chairman, Mr Praveen Agarwal informed that the main thrust for the development of infrastructural projects is to synchronise the inward and outward movement of the rail borne cargo.

“The port projects have been developed in consultation and consonance with South Western Railway (SWR) stated the MPT, chairman, Mr Agarwal and has further opined that this project will provide freight traffic both ways for the Indian Railways.
Considering the enormous potential of freight traffic originating from Mormugao Port, South Western Railway has obtained approval for the MPTs proposal for doubling the track between Hospet to Vasco from the Railway Board, informed Mr Agarwal.
He disclosed that the Chief Traffic Planning Manager of South Western Railway has recently confirmed that Hospet to Vasco doubling project has been sanctioned by the Railway Board at a cost of Rs 2127 crores, and the works have been assigned to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RNRL) for taking up the doubling project.
The doubling of the Railway connectivity will increase freight carriage as well as passenger services significantly between Goa and other parts of the country, the  MPT, chairman, Mr Agarwal said, and adds this has been possible only because of MPTs infrastructure projects liaison with the railway authorities.
