Goa’s healthcare industry projected at RS 1000 cr in 3 yrs

PANAJI: The healthcare industry in Goa, comprising hospitals and allied sectors, is projected to grow in leaps and bounds to touch over Rs 1,000 crore in the next three years, according to sources at the official inauguration by the Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat of the Rs 60 crore NUSI Wockhardt Hospital in Cuncolim.

Thousands of seafarers of the National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) and their families will benefit by over 50 per cent concession, said Captain NA Hiranandani chairman of NUSI/ITF Trust. The NUSI-Wockhardt is a 30 year partnership, with NUSI investment share of about Rs 45 crore. Built on the lines of a 5-star hotel, the multi speciality NUSI Hospital contains 180 beds and employs doctors from all over India, and nurses from Kerala.
The hospital will have a separate wing for medical tourism and offer super specialty treatment in cardiology and cardiac surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics including joint replacement, trauma and spine, medical and surgical oncology, paediatrics and paediatric surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, endocrinology, urology and nephrology, minimal access surgery, gynaecology, and rheumatology besides cosmetology, emergency care, advanced critical care and preventive healthcare, now will be available to the
citizens of Goa.
Every month 250 patients from Goa leave for Bangalore or Belgaum, said Mr Murali Rao, regional head. “We are hoping to tap this market”.
