Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Friday said that she will under no circumstances allow the disruption of traditional fishing activities at Velsao-Pale beach with the identification of the beach stretch for ‘Blue Flag’ certification.
The state government has nominated Velsao-Pale beach under ‘Blue Flag’ certification programme. To move ahead with the project, a presentation by the consultant appointed by the Ministry for Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF and CC) for Blue Flag certification programme was given to the villagers and fishermen community of Velsao-Pale village.
During the presentation, the villagers were informed that the project is basically about cleaning of the beach, ensuring that the waters of the beach, surrounding, the sand and the environment is all clean and safe for the tourists and for the locals.
“We are ready to allow the project only if it is restricted to cleanliness and provisions of basic amenities but will not allow anything that will disrupt the activities of traditional fishermen,” informed Saldanha.
