Panaji: In view of the mining crisis, decline in tourism and in order to empower the Zilla Panchayats and boost agriculture and waste management disposal, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday demanded with the 15th Finance Commission an immediate financial assistance of Rs 1,300 crore for Goa.
The BJP delegation led by state unit president Sadanand Tanavade submitted a representation to the Finance Commission. Former MP and Commissioner of NRI Affairs Narendra Sawaikar and Datta Kholkar were also present.
The Bharatiya Janata Party sought an amount of Rs 250 crore to undertake activities that shall boost the tourism industry in the state. It also urged the finance panel to allocate an amount of Rs 200 crore to the two Zilla Panchayats to undertake developmental activities under increased allocation of powers.
The ruling party sought an amount of Rs 300 crore towards the implementation of programmes for the welfare of mining-affected people till the mining operations resume. Further, the party also sought allocation of an amount of Rs 250 crore for converting uncultivable land into cultivable one and an amount of Rs 300 crore for setting up of new waste management plants in Goa.
