The names of Shripad Naik and Narendra Sawaikar have been announced as the candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party, from North Goa and South Goa constituencies, respectively, for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
The central election committee of the BJP also cleared the names of Dayanand Sopte, Subhash Shirodkar and Joshua D’Souza, as candidates for the Mandrem, Shiroda and Mapusa bypolls, respectively.
Coming out with this information, state general secretary of the party Sadanand Shet Tanavade told this daily that the official announcement about the same would come by Saturday late night.
The Lok Sabha election in Goa as well as the three bypolls would be held on April 23.
The bypolls in Mandrem and Shiroda have been necessitated due to the resignation of
Sopte and Shirodkar as the legislators of these constituencies, in October last year.
The Mapusa constituency fell vacant due to the passing away of its MLA Francis D’Souza.
Sawaikar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Amit Shah and BJP state unit president Vinay Tendulkar for announcing his candidature from South Goa.
“I profusely thank Hon. PM @narendramodi ji @BJP4India President @AmitShah ji & @BJP4Goa through President @TendulkarBJP for reposing faith by announcing my candidature from #SouthGoa. I will work hard for a resounding victory. @narendramodi @BJP4Goa @BJP4India,” the South Goa MP said in a tweet.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai on the other hand congratulated the BJP for according party’s candidature to Joshua, from Mapusa constituency. “Congratulations #Joshua! And thank you @AmitShah @BJP4Goa @Dr_PramodSawant @TendulkarBJP for endorsing my strong belief that he’s the ideal person to take the glorious legacy of his father, former DyCM Francis D’Souza forward, by nominating him as your candidate for #Mapusa,” he tweeted.
The state BJP unit informed that the Prime Minister would lead long list of party’s national leaders to Goa for election campaign.
“All major BJP leaders will address public meetings at various places in Goa during this month and the next,” the state BJP sources stated.
