Loutolim based Big Foot switched to solar power recently with the installation of a six kw plant commissioned in three phases. The plant is in keeping with the environment friendly policies of the establishment, said Maendra Alvares, founder, Big Foot. He added that, the east-west location of his premises made it ideal for solar power. “Turning to solar power would help in saving on the electricity bills and generate clean energy for consumption,” said Alvares.
The solar power plant installation was by Sai Solar, Fatorda, a solar system design and generator company. Speaking about the plant, SR Shirodkar, director, Sai Solar, said that, the plant will generate electricity for self-consumption and provide the excess to the grid. Shirodkar, said that the plant has already started generating electricity and supplying eight-ten units to the grid within days of its installation. He added that, as there are no batteries the maintenance is negligible. The plant type is ideal for establishments where saving on electricity is a priority and backup is not a requirement or any other arrangement of backup is in place.
