The third Bhaktimahotsav, Festival of Devotion will be held at Azad Maidan, Panaji from January 30 to February 3, with leading Kirtankar, Balumaharaj Girgaonkar from Parbhani, Maharashtra performing kirtans in a semi-musical form on all five days. A number of other devotional activities will also be held.
The five-day event organised by Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti, Corporation of the City of Panaji, Bharat Swabhiman, Prajapita Bramhakumari and Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for AYUSH, Shripad Naik on Wednesday, January 30, at 5 p.m.
The working president of the event committee, Anil Counto informed that a 25-feet idol of Shri Vitthal will form an impressive backdrop of the event.
The last day of the event will host a Dindi competition with 32 troupes participating. “The troupes will travel from Goa College of Pharmacy to Azad Maidan in a procession at 4 p.m.” he added.
The opening day of the Bhaktimahotsav will commence with a Bhajan performed by Panvelkar Bhajani Mandal from Ribandar, followed by puja of the Vitthal idol and the inauguration.
On January 31, ‘Swar Vitthal’, a programme of devotional songs will be presented at 4.45 p.m, while on February 1, traditional folk performers from Sattari will present Ranmale, at 4.45 p.m.
On February 2, a drama Dashavatari will be performed by Valavalkar Dashavtari Natyamandal at 4.45 p.m. On February 3, the students of K B Hedgewar, Sanquelim will present ‘Sanskriti Gaaj’, a display of Goan culture, at 8 p.m. Besides, every evening a Maha aarti will be held.
