Betalbatim gang-rape case hearing adjourned to March 27

The case of gang-rape of a 20-year-old girl at Betalbatim in 2018 came up before additional sessions judge Vijaya Ambre for arguments before framing of charges however the matter was posted for hearing on March 27.

Madhya Pradesh natives Ram Bariya, 19, Sanjeev Pal, 23, and Ishwar Makwana, 27, are accused in the case. The trio had also assaulted the survivor’s friend. They had further demanded an amount of Rs 10,500 from the survivor and threatened to post the couple’s nude pictures, which they had taken forcibly, on social media. They were arrested under various sections of IPC.

Police said that accused have a criminal background and cases have been registered against them at Indore, MP. Makwana has a rape case against him, wherein he eloped with a girl and subsequently married her, while the other two daily wagers are involved in thefts.

While a massive manhunt has been launched to trace the whereabouts of Ishwar Makhwana, so far he is not found. He had escaped from TB Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Makhwana, Sanjeev Pal and Ram Bariya were arrested in May for allegedly raping the 20-year-old girl on Betalbatim beach.
