Betalbatim deny Parish Youth victory

Raia: Betalbatim Sporting Club entered the semifinals of 47th Custodio Memorial Football Tournament defeating Parish Youth, Nuvem 7-5 via the tie breaker played at panchayat grounds, Raia on Sunday. The teams played a 2-2 draw during the regulation time.

Betalbatim Sporting shot into the lead in the 7th minute of play through striker Klusner Pereira who bulged the nets after the rival keeper Joel slipped off the field, letting the ball down after collecting it haphazardly and the onrushing Klusner had not difficulty to tap the ball into the empty nets.

Betalbatim buttressed their lead through striker Aniston Fernandes who moved down the right flank and unleashed a powerful 30 yard shot that went past the rival keeper who was just rooted under the bar. This came in the 12th minute of play.

As the end of the first half approached, Parish Youth stitched some good moves through Jorose Oliveira and Shubert Colaso and the Betalbatim rearguard looked vulnerable.

Pushing hard in the last five minutes of the first session of play, Parish Youth pulled a goal back through attacking medio Mauvin Borges who was brought down by a Betalbatim defender. The referee had no hesitation to award the penalty kick, which happened in the 30th minute of play and Mauvin Borges himself stepped up to send it in cracking inside the rival nets.

In the second session, Parish Youth looked a completely transformed side, building up smart moves as they spread the ball well all over.

Pushing hard for the leveller, Parish Youth came charging up and saw success when substitute Clyson Pereira restored parity with a neat placement shot in the 56th minute.

As the teams were involved in a dead-lock, the tie breaker system had to be adopted in which Betalbatim Sporting proved to be the better shooters, scoring accurately through Klusner Pereira, Aniston Fernandes, Selio Fernandes, Oliver Souza and Manushawn Fernandes.

Parish Youth could find the mark only through Inacio Colaso, Mauvin Borges and Cedar Colaso
