Authorities failed to take house owner’s permission

Panaji: Before accommodating the surveillance team members on the terrace of the locked house, the authorities did not even bother to take permission from the owner of the house or its caretaker and showed no consideration to even check or provide the team members with the basic amenities.

In fact, the earlier plan was to put up a tent on the extension floor of a fort wall which was strongly objected to by the fire department owing to strong winds.

Sources said that the caretaker of the house, a portion of which has been occupied presently by the surveillance team, repeatedly visited the team to enquire as to who granted the members permission to occupy the premises. However, he was always replied to by stating that during a disaster or an emergency, the first responders to the crisis are usually community members, mainly neighbours and friends, and hence their cooperation becomes obligatory.
