Goa’s goalkeeper keeper Ashika’s performance was outstanding throughout the tournament despite Goa conceding eight goals and managing to score two. Ashika showed good judgment of the ball and knew exactly where to stand. She made several smart saves in the last match to save Goa the blushes of ending their campaign without a win.
“Both the goals that Chandigarh scored were due to defensive lapses” said Ashika when the Navhind Times spoke to her after the match.
Ashika who represented India in the junior team twice, once in 2015 and the other in 2016, against Nepal and Sri Lanka respectively.
“I want to represent India at the senior level too” said this brave lass from Mapusa doing her junior college there.” “We could not defeat Jharkhand because it is a strong team,” she confessed.
Despite conceeding six goals in the first match against Jharkhand, Ashika was the star player who stopped the visitors from finishing with a bigger win.
“I like to stop the ball when they are shot at goal. I like being busy. It gets tiring at times but it is boring when there is nothing to do. I enjoyed the tournament though we did not qualify,” stated Ashika.
