The water crisis was the most common issue raised by the people when the Congress candidate for the Panaji by-poll Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate went on door-to-door visit as part of his election campaign in the constituency.

Residents of some areas highlighted the water woes faced by them and complained that they get just two hours of water supply which is often
irregular.

Monserrate on Thursday evening covered Tonca and nearby areas in the city during his house-to-house visit

One woman said that they have to face hardships especially during the summer as the water supply is cut from two hours to one hour and at times the water comes for just 30 minutes.

Many residents also raised concern over quality of water supplied through tankers during shortage days and urged the Congress candidate to ensure that he improves the water situation if he gets elected.

Besides the water problem, the people were also seen discussing their personal issues with Monserrate and the people staying in residential complexes raised society-related grievances.

He was seen entering each and every house and spending at least one-two minutes with the people, listening to their grievances and seeking their support for the May 19 by-poll.

While Monserrate was campaigning in Tonca area, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar along with the Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar during the same time was seen campaigning for Monserrate in Mala area.

Chodankar who contested the Panaji by-poll in August 2017 against former chief minister, late Manohar Parrikar had made water issue as one of his poll planks.  However, till date, neither the ruling party nor the opposition has done enough to resolve the city’s water crisis.
