‘The art and culture scene in Goa has improved and is reaching great heights’- Sachin Khedekar

Stating that it is an honour to felicitate artistes and two institutions from Goa, Marathi actor, director and chief guest at the Goa State Cultural Awards function on Monday, Sachin Khedekar said that due to the efforts and contributions of such artistes, that the art and cultural is improving and is reaching great heights. He was present at Kala Academy to felicitate 12 personalities and 2 institutions for their immense contribution and promotion of art and culture in Goa.

“I feel honoured to felicitate these artistes who have more experience than me in their respective fields. It’s also a privilege for them to get felicitated for their hardwork in their own home town. In Goa there wasn’t much happening before but in recent times many International events like the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) have taken place which is helping Goa achieve great heights of success,” added Khedekar.

Minister for Art and Culture, Govind Gaude also congratulated and extended support to the artistes and said that any person who aspires to make a career in the field of art and culture field will be provided support from the government. “Despite not having a lot of money, these artistes have worked selflessly towards the contribution of art and culture. I hope with the knowledge of these senior artistes the younger generation gets motivated and comes forward to take Goa to the next level.”

On the occasion of the Directorate of Art and Culture honoured 12 eminent personalities by conferring upon them the ‘Goa State Cultural Award’. The awardees were Pramod Priolkar from Priol (Music: Indian), FG Alvaro de A Pereira from Utorda (Music: Western), Dasu Shirodkar from Tarvalem, Gajanan Jog from Caranzalem and Avecleto Afonso from Panaji (literature), Ganesh Marathe from Corlim, (drama), Maria Fernandes from Sangolda (tiatr), Romaldo D’Souza from Chinchinim (tiatr), Udaybua Phadke from Mulgao (kirtan), Umesh Tari from Old Goa, (bhajan), Ram Mauskar from Nagargaon (folk art) and Sadashiv Parab from Moira (fine art).

The government also felicitated Antruz Lalitak, Bandora, Ponda with the ‘Best Cultural Institution Award’ for the year 2016-17. While ‘The Best Library Award’ was presented to St Xavier’s College, Mapusa and the Best librarian awards was jointly presented to Sadanand Shirgaonkar and Mohandas Naik. The recipients received the awards from minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude, Sachin Khedekar and Padmashri awardee Prasad Sawkar.
