Arrested Romanians are involved in theft at Maddel: Fatorda PI

Two Romanians, arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday, are also involved in the theft of Rs 50,000  from an ATM of Corporation Bank committed on Tuesday night at Maddel-Fatorda, informed the Fatorda police.

This is the second theft which they have committed, the police added.

Navlesh Dessai, Fatorda police inspector, said that on Tuesday night the two accused entered the ATM booth of Corporation Bank at Maddel and withdrew cash of Rs 50,000. He said that the manager of the bank had lodged a complaint.

Dessai, who is supervising the investigation of the case, said that first they used a duplicate card and withdrew cash of Rs 50,000 from the ATM of Corporation Bank and later reached the SBI ATM where they tried to remove cash by installing a skimmer. They made an attempt to remove cash, however, police reached the spot in time, he added.

He said that the alleged accused have been interrogated and have confessed to having committed the theft at Maddel ATM.

The police have recovered from them cash of Rs 2 lakh, besides a laptop etc.

“We visited the Maddel ATM and verified the CCTV footage which confirmed that they withdrew cash from there,” Dessai said.

A case has been registered under Sections 380, 420 and 457 of the IPC.

The police said that the two alleged accused are involved in more theft cases and they are being interrogated.  They will be produced before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao on Friday for further remand.

Dessai said that police have already informed about the incident to Romanian embassy. He further said that investigation regarding the theft at the ATM counter at Ravanfond was in progress.

Meanwhile, the duo has moved bail application for their release before Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao. Police have been asked to produce their say in the matter. Fatorda police confirmed that the two have moved a bail application and the matter is posted for hearing on July 27.
