Arison Oliveira’s brace of goals enabled Sao Jose de Areal to register a well deserved 2-1 win against CRC, Chinchinim and enter the semifinals of Rising Cup 2018 football tournament played at Cuncolim grounds on Wednesday.
The teams were level 1-1 at half time, with CRC Chinchinim going into the lead in the sixth minute through striker Aston Fernandes. Sao Jose de Areal retaliated quickly and levelled the score within three minutes of going into the arears through Arison Oliveira.
Both teams matched each other well in all the departments of the game and the proceedings which were played on a hot pace looked quite lively to entertain the sizable number of spectactors present on the occasion.
Chinchinim who stunned Sao Jose de Areal could not maintain their pace in the second session during which time, Sao Jose de Areal snatched the victory goal.
Chinchinim went into the lead following a nice build up on the right flank which saw medio Nixon Rebello sending a deep cross to Aston Fernandes who lost no time in banging the ball in to beat Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro.
Undeterred by the early reverse, Sao Jose de Areal thereafter counter attacked in the 9th minute of play wherein attacking medio Alviton Silva raced down the right flank and on entering the box, passed the ball to Arison whose elegant effort sent the CRC keeper on the wrong side as the ball entered the far corner of the nets.
Both teams had some easy chances in the last few minutes of the first session but the strikers on either side, sent the ball wide. The goalkeeper at either end also had a good day under the bar. While Areal keeper Joseph Monteiro brought off two smart saves in this session, Chinchinim keeper Raison D’Souza did not lag too far behind.
The match was fought closely in the second session of play during which time Chinchinim saw their effort hitting the post.
Areal too kept on pressing hard for a goal and their efforts paid off when in the 67th minute of play through attacking medio Arison Oliveira scored the match winner off a pass from A Dias.
Sao Jose de Areal went into the defensive act in the three minutes of play and blocked all the last ditch efforts of Chinchinim team to find the mark, even as they came charging up heavily against them.
Sao Jose de Areal’s attacking medio Arison Oliveira won the man-of-the-match award for his scintillating performance for the day.
Sao Jose de Areal now meet Ambelim SC in the semifinals scheduled to be played on Sept 8.
