Ambelim SC entered the finals of Rising Cup, 2018 football tournament by defeating Sao Jose de Areal 3-1 in the semifinals played at Cuncolim grounds on Saturday.
Ambelim who were leading 2-0 at half time scored through Samson Simoes in the 4th minute and thereafter attacking medio Michael Silva banged in from the spot kick in the 26th minute.
The first goal for Ambelim came when speedy striker Jade Colaso sped down the right flank and sent a deep cross to Samson Simoes whose powerful shot stunned the rival keeper Aggio Antao.
Sao Jose de Areal suffered a jolt when their keeper Aggio Antao got injured midway into the first half and was replaced by Joseph Monteiro who performed well, even though he was under constant pressure from the Ambelim strikers.
Latching on to an attacking play for most part of the first session, Ambelim buttressed their lead through Michael Silva who scored from the penalty spot. Referee Sharad Naik awarded the penalty kick in favour of Ambelim when Areal defender Mario Barretto brought down Ambelim striker Samson Fernandes.
The second session saw Sao Jose de Areal improving their match by a few notches and pulled a goal back through Joston Fernandes who found the mark from the penalty kick to beat Amblim keeper Ozen Silva in the 41st minute of play.
Sao Jose de Areal were now all over the rival territory after having a cushion of two goals. But everytime they had the opportunity, their strikers muffed their opportunities from close distance.
Striker Aslon Oliveira and Alviton Silva who played for the Areal team in the striking line up, could have done much better when each one of them had two great opportunities but failed to find the mark.
Ambelim scored their third goal through Jade Colaso in the 46th minute who on receiving a cross from Samson Simoes, tapped the ball to the far end of Sao Jose de Areal nets.

In the last few minutes of play, Areal tried some long rangers which were wide off the mark.
Sao Jose de Areal’s Joston Fernandes won the man-of-the-match award for his good performance.
