Ambelim SC entered the quarterfinals of 2nd CRCC Cup football tournament defeating Rossman Cruz SC, Naoga-Verna 3-2 via tia-breaker at CRCC grounds, Chinchinim on Monday.
The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time despite having some good chances to score.
Both the teams looked well balanced and played on level terms in all the departments of the game. Rossmann Cruz however had a slight edge over their rivals as far as ball possession was concerned but lacked cohesion in the upfront to convert the chances that came their way.
Ambelim SC too appeared a strong side with their defence and the midfield working in complete tandem. Their strikers however could not find the necessary rhythm once the ball travelled inside the rival box and lost possession.
As such both the teams could not find the mark in either session of play even when a few chances came their way.
The second session saw both the teams stepping up pressure in an attempt to find the mark but this lasted for a while and then the teams played a defensive game in order to avert danger.
The defence of both the teams kept a tight vigil on the strikers and did man-to-man markings which helped the teams a great deal to keep their fortress safe.
In the last five minutes of play, both the teams accelerated the pace of the match and a goal looked imminent.
The goalkeepers on either side had a busy time during this spell.
As the teams were involved in a deadlock, the tie-breaker system had to be adopted to decide the winners wherein Ambelim proved to be better shooters, scoring through Ralf Fernandes, Cletus Pinto and Perrison Fernandes.
Rossman Cruz SC could find the mark through Savio Fernandes and Noel Silva.
