PANAJI: The alliance partners of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government, during their scheduled May 13 meeting with national BJP president Amit Shah will bring up the Mhadei issue.
Earlier, general secretary of the state BJP unit Sadanand Tanavade informed that Shah, who will visit Goa on May 13 to address the local booth-level workers of the party, will hold talks with the alliance partners of the BJP-led state government.
Leaders of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, the Goa Forward Party as well as Independent MLAs, who support the BJP government in Goa, will be interacting with Shah.
Minister for Town and Country Planning Vijay Sardesai, who heads the Goa Forward Party, told this daily that he would discuss all issues of Goa’s interest with Shah, including Mhadei issue.
Minister for Public Works Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, representing the MGP, maintained that during the scheduled meeting, he would seek clarification from Shah as regards his recent statement pertaining to Mhadei issue.
“We are for Mhadei and the interest of Goa,” he added.
Shah, while on the Karnataka assembly election campaign tour, had recently visited Nargund town, the nerve centre of the Mhadei agitation, and promised to resolve the inter-state water dispute within six months, in the event of the BJP coming to power in that state. “Mhadei water will flow into every household and farm land, once BJP comes to power in the state,” he had added.
Replying to a question as to whether the state BJP unit would discuss the issue pertaining to Mhadei river with Shah during his May 13 Goa visit, South Goa Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar said the local BJP leaders would put forth their related views before Shah.
Tanavade said that till date, 1,550 out of the total 1,642 booths of his party in the state have registered for participating in the May 13 meeting of Shah, to be held at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium.
“Around 15,500 booth-level workers of the BJP are expected to attend this meeting,” he added.
It was also informed that the meeting of Shah would be a show of strength of the party, aimed towards displaying organisational structure of the BJP in Goa as well as party’s well-oiled mechanism.
The meeting is further aimed towards boosting the morale of the party men with the Lok Sabha election in the country round the corner.
Shah is also scheduled to interact with the state core committee of his party, during his Goa visit.
