The Salcete block of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded immediate custodial interrogation of all those politicians, towards whom the needle of suspicion points in the Louis Berger bribe scandal.

Addressing a press conference, BJP leader Damodar ‘Damu’ Naik said that BJP’s Salcete block has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday making this demand.

Speaking further, Naik said that there is a widespread discussion among the public as regards the Louis Berger ‘deal’ being struck in a bungalow, with a doctor and an official of the US-based firm visiting the place.

“Everyone, who is linked to this ‘deal’, including the Margao MLA and former chief minister Digambar Kamat, and the then minister for public works department Churchill Alemao, should be made to face custodial interrogation, if they are found to be involved in the scandal,” he demanded, adding that if that particular bungalow belongs to the Fatorda legislator Vijai Sardesai, then he should also be interrogated.

The memorandum says, “After the name of the tainted Kamat came into light in the local as well as the national media in the Louis Berger bribery scam, it has once again proved the fact that the present Margao MLA is a habitually corrupt person. The person who publicly tries to act like a sober person is in fact actively involved in many such scams and therefore, we demand that a thorough CBI inquiry should be initiated against  him in the bribery scam, not only in JICA, Dona Paula-Vasco Sea Link and Mopa Airport projects, but also in all major projects undertaken during his tenure as the Chief Minister.

It further states, “The said scam came into light when the company, Louis Berger accepted the charges in the American court of law, that they paid bribe to the Goan ministers in 2010, wherein it automatically involves the then PWD minister Churchill Alemao and the then chief minister Digambar Kamat who was also the finance minister.”

Speaking further, Naik said that the project head of JICA A Wachasundar should also be immediately sacked from his post as he can interfere with the files and evidences regarding the scandal.
