All efforts on to make Baina beach an ideal spot: Milind

VASCO: Minister for Power and Publicity Milind Naik has said he is making all efforts to promote and develop Baina beach and turn it into an ideal place in the state.

He was speaking during the inauguration of ‘Baina Beach Summer Festival-2015’ on Saturday evening. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Lavina D’Souza, deputy chairperson Tara Kerkar, BBSF chairman Shekhar Khadapkar, vice-chairman Sharad Chopdekar, councillors Manesh Arolkar, Sanjay Satardekar, Sumita Usgaonkar, Fiola Rego, vice chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, Chandrakant Gawas and Jennifer Almeida were present on the dais.

Naik said that he had proposed a stilt bridge (flyover) to protect the beach. “The people will witness major development along Baina beach in another two years,” he stated and appealed the people to support the beach beautification project which is being done to boost local tourism.

“Baina beach will get a major facelift and efforts will be made to bring in tourism-related projects like water sports activities, entertainment facilities, and also shacks,” added Naik.

Vasco MLA Almeida said, “I appreciate Power Minister for his efforts towards beautification of the beach where tourism activities will flourish and it will benefit entire Mormugao taluka.”

He sought support from people of Vasco and Mormugao constituencies to make Vasco town garbage-free under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by October 2, 2015.

MMC chairperson Lavina D’Souza said the festival will help promote tourism activities in the port town. The beach can turn into an important venue of activities like dance, music and other entertainment, D’Souza said.

BBSF chairman Shekhar Khadapkar, in his welcome address, highlighted the aim of organising the beach festival at Baina. He said ‘Swachh Bharat Nital Vasco’ is the theme of the festival. “The MMC is making efforts to promote the beach by organising various entertainment events for the last several years,” he said. The event will conclude on May 9.
