Shenergy, a unique initiative on women empowerment presented its fourth event in Goa, ‘The Beauty & The Feast’, a fashion show that broke stereotypes and celebrated beauty the way it comes, in all shapes, sizes, and colours. Rather than having professional models, the show gave an opportunity to all women to walk the ramp and showcase the beauty within them.
The fashion attire was also centred around wearable, affordable, functional and accessible fashion for all. The showstopper for the show was an exclusive ‘shenergy’ sari worn by Manisha Khanna with works of painters (Bhagvatinath and Amita Bamba) and poets (Bani Marathe) printed on it. The outfit symbolised motherhood, the greatest creation of all. Khanna was also pregnant and due in a few days, which made it all the more symbolic.
The show also gave new and upcoming designers an opportunity to showcase their talents. These designers included Hesha Harmalkar, Joyce Peles, Vibha Rewankar, Rachna Sharma, Ishika Latwal, Ritu Puri and Kim Pereira. The various collections showcased included – Purab Paschim (Indo- Western), Chameleon (multi-purpose clothes), Rebirth (upcycling), Royal and Funky.
There was also a presentation by COOJ and many performances that included Zumba by Centina Fernandes, lavani by Janhavi Deshprabhu, Bollywood classical by Moumita, a guitar performance by Sari Geron, singing by Sonia Chauhan and Ayesha, retro dance and speech by Kamakhya Singh, stand up act by Kanan and dance by Jovita.
The crowd broke into an impromtu dance as the Kala Chashma number was played. The proceeds of the show went to Ish Kripa Sadan, a shelter for women and girls in distress.
