AITUC demands rollback of fuel price hike

NEW DELHI: Condemning the steep hike in the price of diesel, kerosene and domestic cooking gas effected by the Union Government Friday night, the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Saturday said the hike will have a cascading effect on the prices of all essential commodities including food, vegetables and transport.

The Central government Friday night hiked the prices of diesel by rupees three per litre, kerosene by rupees two a litre, and increased Rs 50 on domestic LPG cylinder to offset the losses incurred by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on selling the fuels at the government-administered prices.
“It will make the life of the ordinary people who are already reeling under the burden of soaring prices more miserable,” the AITUC said in a statement.
“AITUC calls upon state committees all over the country to immediately organise demonstrations, rallies and ‘dharna’ to protest against the Union Government’s decision of fuel price hike and demand immediate rollback of the hike,” the statement added.
