PANAJI: After verifying documents, Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday allowed all 72 authorised handcarts to carry out their business in the city. However, CCP will take a call on regularisation of other handcrafts, which do not have documents, in its meeting to be held on April 25.
CCP market committee on Tuesday had called all the owners with handcarts and documents at Campal ground, wherein the members of the committee verified the documents.
CCP market committee chairman Uday Madkaikar said that “during the drive we found many handcarts with a similar number, so in order to verify their documents the committee had called them at Campal ground with their handcarts.”
He informed that there will be a meeting on April 25 wherein there will be a discussion on illegal handcarts, adding that, the council will take a call whether to regularise handcarts which do not have licences.
Madkaikar said that henceforth the handcart owners will be allowed to carry out business if they follow the rules, otherwise action will be initiated against unmovable carts.
The committee member Dinesh Salgaonkar informed that all the handcart owners will be given an identity card that will have to be displayed on the handcart, adding, all the handcarts will be given special serial numbers so that there is no duplication of serial number.
