United States of Love
INOX II, 11.50 p.m.
Based in Poland in the year 1990, accompanying the collapse of the Soviet empire is a mood of deep despair and erotic yearning amongst the four women in Tomasz Wasilewski’s unnerving film United States of Love. The film won the Silver Bear for the best script at the Berlin International film festival.
INOX IV, 9.50 p.m.
This film from Bhutan is set in forest where men and women gather to participate in rituals and performances. The film won an Honorable Mention at the Toronto film festival. Director Khyentse Norbu’s previous film Vara was also at IFFI in 2013.
Kala Academy, 9.45 p.m.
Alejandro Jodorowsky has big fan following around the world and this autobiographical film was well received. Given it is a Jodorowsky film though, the content may not be everybody’s cup of tea yet it is worth a watch for his signature style.
Maquinez Palace I, 10 p.m.
Director Denis Villeneuve has made successful films like Sicario, Prisoners, Incendies and with Arrival, he takes a plunge in science fiction. The film is scheduled for a commercial release shortly but if you have seen Villeneuve’s films before, it is unlikely that you will wait till then to watch it.
