The Goan Folk Art Group in collaboration with Directorate of Art and Culture and Navjivan Society of Freedom Fighters recently organised the 11th Goan Folk Art Festival in commemoration of the Independence Day at Azad Bahvan Hall, Porvorim. The programme began with a patriotic song by students of the Chubby Cheeks High School, which was followed by a welcome dance.
President of the Goan Folk Art Group, Joaquim Lourenco Fernandes welcomed the audience. Present were minister for revenue Rohan Khunte. He released the souvenir of 11th Goan Folk Art Festival and felicitated Riona Lucielle Po and Selvyn Braganca for their outstanding contribution to Goan Folk Art as singer and musician (violin player) for the last 10 years. Noel De Souza was the compere for the programme. Joaquim sang a self-composed folk song on the topic of Swachh Bharat with the Gumot and Harmonica. The festival had participation from several schools and folk art groups that presented various mandos, dekhinis, dhalo, fugdi, folk music dunno and folk songs.
