6 Critics Choice short films to be screened

Six award winning and nominated films from the Critics Choice Short Films Awards (CCSFA) to be screened at ESG on February 7, 6.30 p.m. by the Cinephile Film Club

The Cinephile Film Club of the Entertainment Society of Goa in association with the Film Critics Guild, will showcase six award winning and nominated films from the Critics Choice Short Films Awards (CCSFA) that were organised by the Guild recently. The screening will be held at the Cinephile Film Club, Maquinez Palace, Panaji on February 7 at 6.30 p.m.

The Guild was formed last year where critics from all around the country joined hands for the cause of good cinema. It has renowned critics, Anupama Chopra as the chairperson and Rajeev Masand as the vice-chairperson. Short film awards was the first initiative taken up.

With over 500 entries from across India, five films were nominated in different categories like, best film, actor, actress, direction, editing, writing, background score and the non-fiction category, and all the members of the Guild voted for the winners.

A gritty film on the state of farmers in Maharashtra, ‘Sambhavtaha’ directed by Gaurav Madan won four of awards including best film, actor, writer and director. The film has been screened at many festivals and has several won laurels.

The story of home grown rooster, ‘Tungrus’, directed by Rishi Chandna won the best film and best direction in the non-fiction category. Screened at more than a dozen international festivals, including the BFI London film festival, it also won the best editing for Neha Mehra a graduate from FTII who has also won a National Award.

The other films to be screened include ‘Black Cat’ (Best cinematography and music score) based on a story by Ruskin Bond, ‘Maa’ (best actress, Kani Kusruti), a mother daughter story ‘MAD’ (nominated for best film, actress direction) and ‘Last Day of Summer’ (nominated for best film, writing and background score). Member of the Guild and curator of the Cinephile Film Club, film critic Sachin Chatte will introduce the films.  (Open to all)
