Cuncolim: A five-goal blitz by striker Danny Fernandes enabled Youth Club of Manora register a hard fought 7-5 win against Chandor Club and enter the quarterfinals of 10th Cuncolim Union Rolling Trophy football tournament, at Cuncolim grounds on Monday.
Youth Club of Manora led 5-2 at lemon break.
Danny Fernandes found the mark for YC Manora in the 15th, 23rd, 32nd, 43rd and 65th minute. Their other goals were scored by Klins Mendes (9th minute) and Jason Barbosa (27th minute).
Chandor Club found the mark through Mario Noronha (5th minute), Brivan Dias (7th minute), Jeston Fernandes (48th minute) and Benson Fernandes who scored a brace, bulging the nets in the 51st and 59th minute.
As a matter of fact, it was Chandor Club who were two goals up within a span of seven minutes with Mario Noronha and Brivan Dias scoring a goal each in the 5th and 7th minute respectively.
But within the next two minutes, the scales of the match tilted heavily in favour of YC Manora as in the 9th minute Klins Mendes dashed into Chandor box and scored.
Goaded by the success, YC Manora were all over the rival territory and restored parity through Danny Fernandes in the 15th minute, 2-2.
Danny Fernandes thereafter scored one more goal in the 23rd minute to make the scoreline 3-2 in their favour.
Jason Barbosa then in the 27th minute beat Chandor SC keeper Johnson Fernandes to make the tally 4-2. Soon thereafter Danny Fernandes completed his hat-trick as he bulged the nets in the 32nd minute and then went on to find the mark again in the 43rd minute for his fourth goal.
Chandor Club would not give up and fought back with Jeston Fernandes scoring in the 48th minute and soon in the 51st minute Chandor’s hardworking medio Benson Fernandes found the mark in the 51st minute and he then completed his brace scoring in the 59th minute.
YC Manora then gathered themselves well and with some meticulous moves made the scoreline 7-5 in their favour as Danny Fernandes scored his fifth goal of the day.
In the last few minutes of play it appeared as if Chandor Club would level terms but that somehow did not happen as Danny Fernandes made the issue safe with a great goal, just five minutes from end.
The last four minutes of the match saw some tense moments as both the teams looked for a goal. But in the end YC Manora prevailed over their rivals.
Former Vasco SC player Shrikant Dessai was the chief guest and handed over the man-of-the-match award to Danny Fernandes of Youth Club of Manora.
